About
What is Kinesiology?
- Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement, performance and function. The practice of kinesiology incorporates the sciences of biomechanics, anatomy and physiology, and considers neuroscience and psychosocial factors. Registered Kinesiologists use evidence-based research to treat and prevent injury and disease, and to improve movement and performance.
- In Ontario, Registered Kinesiologists are regulated movement and performance health professionals who fill a vital gap in care by delivering evidence-based exercise services. They help Ontarians prevent injury, manage chronic disease, and recover safely through a whole-person approach that supports safe, effective movement, improved physical performance, and long-term health management.
- Registered Kinesiologists work with people who are recovering from injury or illness, managing chronic conditions, or aiming to maintain or improve their long-term health. At Kinnected Wellness, we pride ourselves in delivering individualized programs tailored towards goals that are functional to your every day life and goals.

- The scope of practice for kinesiology has been broadly defined as: “The assessment of human movement and performance and its rehabilitation and management to maintain, rehabilitate or enhance movement and performance." This definition allows for the diversity of settings in which members practice and also reflects the practice of kinesiology not just as rehabilitative, but as a discipline aimed at improving health and general wellness.

Why Choose a Registered Kinesiologist in Ottawa
- In Ontario, Registered Kinesiologists are legally regulated by the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario (COKO). Only someone who meets strict education, exam, ethics, and practice requirements can use the protected title “Registered Kinesiologist” or “R.Kin”.
- This regulation:
- • Protects the public
- • Allows you to file complaints through a formal regulatory body if standards aren’t met.
- • Gives confidence in professional training and oversight.
- Registered Kinesiologists must complete a four-year university degree in kinesiology, human kinetics, exercise science, or a closely related field, plus pass an entry-to-practice exam administered by COKO. This generally means kinesiologists generally have a deeper scientific understanding of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and movement science.
- Because Kinesiologists in Ontario are regulated health professionals, many extended health benefit plans cover kinesiology services — something you often don’t get with personal training fees. It’s still important to check your specific plan.
- If you pay out-of-pocket for services from a Registered Kinesiologist in Ontario, those expenses are generally eligible medical expenses for the Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) Medical Expense Tax Credit (claimed on Line 331 of your tax return). You will usually need official receipts showing the practitioner’s registration and business information.
- Ontario’s tax system integrates the federal Medical Expense Tax Credit with provincial tax filing, so claiming eligible medical expenses helps reduce both your federal and Ontario income tax. (CRA’s list of allowed medical expenses applies across Canada.)
